Story
At Tungnath Temple, Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of his arm. According to Hindu mythology, after the Pandavas won the Kurukshetra war against the Kauravas, they came to the Himalayas to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings. Lord Shiva, who wished to remain incognito, disguised himself as a bull and concealed himself among the cattle. However, the Pandavas recognized Lord Shiva and attempted to catch him. As they did so, Lord Shiva’s arm emerged from the earth, and a temple was constructed on that spot to pay homage to him.
Chopta – Base town
To reach Tungnath, visitors can trek for about 4 km from Chopta. The journey is moderately challenging and takes approximately 3-4 hours to reach the temple from Chopta. The trek passes through dense forests and offers breathtaking views of the mountains in the vicinity. The ideal time to visit Tungnath is from April to November, as the weather is usually pleasant, and trekking conditions are favorable during this period.

तुंगनाथ चोपता से पैदल पहुँचा जा सकता है, जो 4 किमी दूर स्थित एक छोटा सा गाँव है। तुंगनाथ मंदिर की समुंद्र तट से ऊंचाई 3,680 मीटर (12,073 फीट) है।तुंगनाथ की यात्रा को कठिनाई में मध्यम माना जाता है, और चोपता से मंदिर तक पहुँचने में लगभग 3-4 घंटे लगते हैं। ट्रेक घने जंगलों से होकर गुजरता है और आसपास के पहाड़ों के शानदार दृश्य प्रस्तुत करता है। तुंगनाथ घूमने का सबसे अच्छा समय अप्रैल से नवंबर तक है जब मौसम सुहावना होता है और ट्रेकिंग की स्थिति अनुकूल होती है।
