Tehri Dam
The Tehri Dam is the highest dam in India and one of the highest in the world. It is a multi-purpose rock and earth-fill embankment dam on the Bhagirathi River and Bhilangana River – New Tehri in Uttarakhand, Tehri dam is projected for 1,000 megawatts (1,300,000 hp) of hydroelectricity. it solve the purpose of irrigation for a large population .
The reservoir’s gross storage capacity is 3540 MCM with effective storage capacity of 2615 MCM.
The dam’s reservoir surface area is 52 km square .
Tehri Dam is a 260.5 m (855 ft) high rock and earth-fill embankment dam,and can be reservoir of 4.0 cubic kilometer.Dam proponents claim that the complex is designed to withstand an earthquake of 8.4 magnitude ..
It supplies over 250 million gallons of drinking water to Delhi, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
The Tehri Hydropower Complex also includes the 400 MW Koteshwar Dam.

The huts are kept in good condition and are reached from the main land via a motor launch that is reserved for that purpose. Hills covered in forest, surround the lake. The huts are nicely decorated and maintained. Meals can be consumed on the boat itself. As they move a little with the waves, the huts provide a pleasant feel.

There is good infrastructure available for water sport activities. Including scuba diving. As water is still there , so the activities are safe.

Best Time to visit Tehri Lake.
New Tehri has cool weather throughout the year, although the best time for a visit is between April to June and October to December, avoid rainy season.
